Here’s a round-up of exciting updates, highlights, team wins and competitor insights from across the business throughout January.
What’s Happening: Installations
Update from Rich Jones
🛠️ Installations Update – January Meeting Highlights
Our first Installations meeting of the year took place on 22nd January, and it was brilliant to see such strong engagement from the whole team. The session was extremely well received and gave us the perfect opportunity to celebrate an exceptional year while looking ahead to the exciting developments on the horizon.
⭐ Exceptional Performance
One of the standout achievements was our remarkably low remedial rate.
Across 14,182 blinds manufactured, we recorded an error rate of just 2.9%, an extraordinary result when you consider this represents around 57,000 individual measurements taken throughout the year. This level of precision reflects the skill, consistency, and professionalism of the entire Installations team.
⚡ Innovation: 12v Roof Motor System
We also introduced the upcoming launch of our new 12v roof motor system, enabling us to supply and install conservatory roof blinds with a fully integrated low‑voltage solution. No other company in the industry is offering this technology, giving us a clear competitive advantage and keeping us years ahead of the market.
🧠 Interactive Quiz & Team Engagement
The team took part in an interactive online quiz focused on time management and the exceptional service we deliver every day. It sparked great conversations and was one of the most positively received parts of the agenda.
🔗 Smart Home Integration Training
To support our continued growth in smart home integration, we delivered updated training on the Connector home automation hub, covering:
- Alexa setup
- Automated timers
- Firmware updates
- Best‑practice guidance
This ensures the field team has even greater confidence when setting up customers’ blinds on the app.
🧠 Quote of the Month

All the best, Rich.
Installation of the Month
Wow! This month we showcase an installation in a stunning orangery on farmland in Somerset
The scale of the area is epic, with the ridge height exceeding 6 metres. Smoothweave oak pinoleum was the chosen colour to compliment the light wall and flour colouring with custom rails to match the ‘Fir Green’ structure.
The installation is controlled by our exclusive Solo Connect system to give complete flexibility of operation via our Pure handset or our App.
With the area being so large and high Jeff required an extra pair of hands, so RJ was on hand to assist with the setting up of towers and over the course of the installation.
Well done to Kevin Rogers for securing the order and to Jeff and RJ for delivering the vision to an impeccable standard. A fantastic installation that perfectly shows what we are about!
What’s Happening: Sales
ANOTHER STANDOUT PINOLEUM PROJECT
Pinoleum seems to be the flavour of the month, with this spectacular sale in Barming on the outskirts of Maidstone in Kent.
The clients visited our showroom and had a live demonstration with Sean, which left them really impressed with the pinoleum and motorised options. Following this, credit goes to Alan Cester for securing the £39,300.00 order, working closely with the client to finalise the specification. His product knowledge helped refine the solution, ensuring it delivers both a clean aesthetic and practical performance for the space.
The clients have also chosen Smoothweave pinoleum, this time in parchment to give a similar colour to the existing, whilst our specification will create tighter and better coverage, compared to ‘gappy’ and busy appearance of the original blinds. We will take great pleasure in removing them for the client!
The large conservatory requires blind coverage to both the roof and windows and again the client has opted for motorised operation with our Solo Connect system.
The survey is due to be carried out in the next few days so watch this space for pictures on what will be an amazing installation.

What’s Happening: Factory
Improved Direct Drive Roof & Velux Blinds
We’ve recently made some adjustments to our Direct Drive roof blinds and motorised Velux aiming to reduce service calls. They are now corded similarly to our lantern blinds but the components vary due to the different moving rail.
Update on Linea Facia End Plate Design
Our Linea facia’s have been selling so well since their introduction at the of 2024. We’ve recently come to the end of our first run of 90mm end plates and we wanted to take this opportunity to alter the design.

The photos above show the prototype from our supplier. You will see the back edge is chamfered at the top to allow for easier fitting of face fix blinds. This also allows the back edge of the endcap to rest against the wall, stabilising the blind.
These will start coming out on jobs in the next month and we will copy this design to the 70mm end plates once we run down stock of the existing design.
Spotlight on Innovation
From Concept to Completion
Following on from November’s complex window challenge, Greg’s concept has now become a reality. Installed by Martin Evans with his usual precision and care, the finished solution delivers exactly what the client was hoping for – effective dim-out coverage that works seamlessly with the complex window shapes, without compromising on aesthetics.
The combination of manual shaped roof blinds and motorised systems fits perfectly, proving that with the right expertise, even the most challenging designs can be conquered.
The client was delighted with the result, and below you can see the installation in all its glory.

JANUARY Reviews Showcase
We’ve received some fantastic reviews this month, and we wanted to share a few standouts:
Honest and professional
⭐10/10 Checkatrade™ – (Greg Hall & Martin Evans)
A guy came and gave us a quote and, true to his word, never hassled us for an order. Once we did decide to place an order, we were kept informed about what was happening and the 2 installers who spent a day with us installing the blinds were excellent. Our blinds have been in for around 10 weeks now and we are very pleased with them – Mamie Beasant
Fantastic company to work with
⭐10/10 Checkatrade™ – (Derek Kay & Richard Turner)
I used this company as I had an apex window that was incredibly tricky to dress due to the size and angle. I had an appointment with the sales team member who spent hours going through all the options open to me and explaining how the blinds worked, then a follow up appointment with the fitter to double check measurements before manufacture. Everything was bespoke and the skill and workmanship was outstanding. The fitter was a pleasure to deal with and knew his job inside out and had such an attention to detail. – Kate Folbigg
Really good company to deal with
⭐5/5 Trustpilot™ – (Grant S Johnston & Martin Evans)
Good communication from start to finish. Very helpful salesman who showed us all the options we could have for our bi-folds and wasn’t pushy. The fitting process was smooth and relatively quick and the blinds look amazing and really keep in the warmth. Overall, very happy and would highly recommend. – Tina Auluck
Five Stars
⭐5/5 Trustpilot™ – (Kevin Rogers & Rob Scott)
5 star experience from the start with Kevin to the installation with Rob. Both very professional and helpful. I will be recommending specialist blinds over and over. Thank you! – Emma Grover
Excellent product and service
⭐5/5 Trustpilot™ – (Greg Hall & Rob Scott)
We recently bought a new build house with large, double height curtain wall windows at the front. We were looking for a specialist blind company to do a good job and Specialist Blinds were true to their name. The service has been really good from the first contact and subsequent visit from local rep Greg, who was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He passed over to Rob our fitter who was brilliant. He did a pre-order survey and came back to do a great job fitting the blinds. We received informed advice throughout and the product is high quality and works brilliantly. Based on our experience, we would definitely recommend Specialist Blinds. – Michael Ginsberg
Five Stars
⭐5/5 Trustpilot™ – (Grant S Johnston & Paul Stuart)
I needed blinds to reduce the heat and glare in my small conservatory which was reaching over 41c in summer. My consultant Paul explained the options and recommended cellular blinds all round (I’d initially wanted just the roof and the large windows done, not the small windows and double doors). I’m so glad I took his advice. He fitted the blinds a few weeks later and the difference is staggering. I can read/work without being dazzled and at midday it hasn’t exceeded 34c inside. The blinds are well made, look super smart and are easy to operate. As it’s got colder, I’ve found that closing them at night has also helped to keep heat in. I highly recommend Specialist Blinds. – Lorraine Watson
Quality from start to finish
⭐10/10 Checkatrade™ – (Clare Walker & Richard Turner)
Excellent experience all round, from the start Claire knew her stuff and answered all questions without hesitation (unlike competitors, I ordered the blinds and Richard came to measure up…. Again, no issues at all, I was then booked for fitting and again had the pleasure of Richard who was excellent…. Blinds have now been up and are of very high quality. They are by no means the cheapest company but if it’s quality you want then I’d recommend specialists blinds. – Kevin Crapper
Excellent five-year annual maintenance programme
Email to Christine at the Contracts Department:
As this is our last maintenance visit I thought I’d drop you a line to say that the five-year maintenance programme has been excellent. Ryan carried out the service this morning. He has done an excellent job each year and the blinds still look fabulous and work well. And thank you for your efficient liaison in arrange them all!
⭐5/5 Trustpilot™ – (Contracts Team & Ryan Keegan)
We had twenty blinds of varying sizes and shapes installed in our conservatory five years ago. At the time we signed up for their five-year annual maintenance programme, where they come and clean and service the blinds each year. I cannot recommend this highly enough. After five years the blinds still look as good as new, with none of the staining and insect debris that usually gathers. An excellent follow up service. – Steve Sams

What’s Happening: Marketing
Current Performance
After a slow start in January 2025, we’re pleased to report that the number of leads issued this January is up 45% compared to last year! As always, we will continue to monitor where our enquiries are coming from and adjust/increase advertising budgets accordingly.
Customers ‘Tagging’ us on Instagram
It’s always rewarding to see customer’s taking the time to leave us online reviews, but even better when we can see their blinds in action! Two customers have recently posted on their own Instagram pages, sharing their experiences with their own following as well as tagging us.
@salesteam @installteam: If you think your customers are likely to use socials, please do encourage them to tag us in their videos.
Google’s AI Overviews
As reported in our November newsletter, we are constantly updating our websites to improve our visibility in Google’s search results. You will have noticed that when you use Google yourselves that the top results are often AI Overviews now, so we are pleased to see a huge increase in the number of times Google has used our website to help answer people’s questions. Not surprisingly, YouTube is now above us in the top five websites with visibility, but we are still beating all our competitors.

Installation Team Meeting
At the meeting last week, we’ve asked the team for their help in obtaining more videos that we know works across our social channels. We need to ensure that we continue to post videos that our followers engage with so that they save/share our posts, and ultimately message us when they’re ready for a quote. Keep an eye on our socials to see what they achieve…
What’s Happening: Showroom
Showroom Doors Revamp Complete
Some of you may have noticed a fresh look at the showroom entrance 👀 — the doors have officially had a revamp. We’ve updated the vinyl and refreshed the text to better reflect our brand and give a cleaner, more professional first impression to visitors.
It’s a small change, but one that makes a big difference to how the showroom feels from the moment customers arrive.
Take a look next time you’re passing through — it’s all part of keeping our space looking sharp and up to date.

Staff News

How long have you been with Specialist Blinds?
I have been with Specialist Blinds now for 6 1/2 years
What’s the best way to start your day at work?
I find the best way to start the working day is with a swim, some breakfast and then to aim to arrive near my 1st appointment 5 minutes early. I then like to enter the postcodes on the sat nav for the rest of the day’s appointments.
What’s one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
There are 2 really, I was offered a professional football apprenticeship when I was 16 for Bristol Rovers, as a goalkeeper!! ⚽The 2nd is that up until recently, I played Cricket for Somerset over 50’s. Hence the photograph with the great South African fast bowler Allan Donald on our Tour to Cape Town in 2020. (Just to avoid any confusion, that’s me on the left 😂)
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received (work-related or not)?
The best advice, which was given to me by one of my Print College lecturers, was to use your mouth and ears in the proportions you have been given them. Listen twice as much as you talk. You can always learn something from listening, however, you’ll never learn anything from talking.
If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be and why?
In my younger days, Banff in Canada.🍁Amazing skiing in the winter and fantastic golf in the summer. Now it would be in Falmouth, Cornwall. The skiing isn’t as good 😆 but the golf is lovely. It’s a fantastic town and there is always something to see or do and they have some great pubs and restaurants. 🏌🏻♂️⛳
What’s something on your bucket list that you’re determined to cross off?
We want to travel the world to watch England play cricket (we may need to revise this after recent events!!) 🏏
What’s your favourite thing to do when you’re not working?
We’re self-employed so we’re never not working!! However, when we do have some spare time, I love a game of golf and we try to spend as much time as we can in Falmouth where our Son and his Girlfriend have just bought their 1st home. 🏡
If you weren’t working for Specialist Blinds, what other profession would you be in?
I was a printer for 26 years before going into sales so I guess that would be my default. However, given the opportunity, I would love to own my own Log Burning Stove business 🔥
WeLCOME TO OUR NEWCOMER
We would like to introduce you to our newest team member who joined us at the start of January. Please join us in welcoming Laura, who has come on board as our Associate Director of Marketing.
Laura has already made a great impression through her enthusiasm, dedication, and collaborative approach, and we are excited to see the positive impact she will make as she settles into her new role.
Laura Williams
Associate Director of Marketing

“I’m pleased to be starting my new role here at Specialist Blinds.
For the past 10 years I have headed up the marketing function for high end interiors products, manufacturing and construction brands, selling to a variety of markets. I particularly like to work with incredible quality products and services with a technical or specification approach and refocus them towards design-led audiences and ensure that the quality really gets chance to shine!
I’m an avid netball player (guess which position) and a big fan of yoga and whatever weird and wonderful exercise trend is in at any given time (out: rock climbing, in: reformer pilates). I’m currently in the rather slow process of redecorating my house; much to the dismay of the ginger cat that lives there.
Thank you for welcoming me.” – Laura
🎉Congratulations🎉
Factory Employee of the Month
Our employee of the month for January is
Laura Aldridge🥳🥇
“Laura is our first employee of the month in 2026. Laura is always willing to take on a new challenge and has recently been learning how to make lantern blinds. She has been proactive during this quieter period of the year, asking for more jobs and beginning to work on free hanging blinds. This attitude is great to see, well done Laura!” – Ellie Smith-Anderson
